Coral Enchantments
I was inspired by some wonderful coral jewellery by Katherine Wheeler. I made a series of my own texture stamps, using both pieces of coral that had washed up on the beach that I have been collecting for years; and also using stamps I carved myself from clay. These stamps were bisque fired before use.
I have always loved the sea, not just the colours and the smell of the ocean, but the endless, fascinating shapes and textures of the shells, the coral, and the shore. I wanted to make something beautiful, fragile, translucent - as though it had washed up on the shore.
This form is still in a state of refinement, but one day I hope that it will bring joy to people as they make their morning coffee, or afternoon tea. Perhaps if you hold it up to your ear you'll hear the ocean....
